For over ten years, the Harold Edelstein Foundation has funded the Harold Cares About Your Future program for El Nido teen clients. The program teaches participants about goal-setting, family planning, money management, resume creation, employee rights, job applications, job interview preparation, winning work attitude and habits, and practices mock job interviews. Our Fall Session group had their graduation on Friday, December 15, 2017.
Five out of our six students are currently El Nido scholarship recipients attending college or university, and the sixth will be starting college this spring. Participants enjoyed learning from several guest speakers, including; Diana Harris, El Nido’s Director of Human Resources, who spoke about employee rights, a health educator from the Comprehensive Community Health Centers discussed birth control and sexually transmitted diseases, and a representative from the Youth Policy Institute presented information on financial literacy.
Jessica Orellana, field deputy and case worker for Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, was the guest speaker for the December culmination. She delivered an inspirational speech to the students where she talked about her experience as a former El Nido client who became the first in her family to graduate from college.
We thank the Harold Edelstein Foundation for helping us create a brighter future for our teens!
