California taxpayers will have an additional 90 days—until July 15—to file their federal and state taxes without interest or penalties under relief measures announced by the Internal Revenue Service and Franchise Tax Board.
Once the situation improves, Free Tax Prep LA centers will reopen and bring much needed relief to taxpayers. Clients with simple returns may file for free at home: https://www.myfreetaxes.org/

IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. Persons with disabilities, the elderly, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns are encouraged to participate

The Federal EITC is a refundable credit worth up to $6,431 that is available to low-to-moderate income individuals and families. The Cal EITC is worth up to an additional $2,879. That’s a lot of money back in your pocket!
In previous years, nearly 1 million Los Angeles County residents received an EITC refund. It is estimated that almost 328,000 did not apply for the EITC — leaving almost $566 million on the table.
Free Tax Help at an El Nido FamilySource Center in Pacoima or Los Angeles:
The Los Angeles FamilySource Centers (FSC) are collaborative one-stop community centers designed to assist low-income residents in the City of Los Angeles to become self-sufficient by increasing family income and academic achievement for youth and adults.
El Nido’s Pacoima and South-West Los Angeles FSCs offer services including; counseling, parent education, employment assistance, legal aid, financial literacy classes, adult education, tutoring & homework help, benefits screening, recreational & cultural activities, youth leadership development and community events.
All FSCs have universal access services available to all persons. Additionally, case management services are available to low-income parents and guardians, and their children 17 years and under.
Both of El Nido’s FamilySource Centers have been designated as one of the best performing in the City, earning 4 Star ratings in 2019.
Free Tax Prep Los Angeles is a public and private partnership being led by the City of Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department (HCIDLA), the Los Angeles County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA), the Koreatown Youth + Community Center (KYCC), and the United Way of Greater Los Angeles.
