Funds Help Parents Effectively Guide Their Children’s Education, Gain Advocacy Skills, and Obtain Vital Health Care Services

According to Executive Director Liz Herrera, “Parents in Los Angeles can be overwhelmed when attempting to navigate the options for education and health care for their children. With the funds from the California Community Foundation, El Nido staff has been providing parents in underserved communities with quality information and guidance as to their myriad educational and health care options, empowering them to make the best choice for each child, and to advocate for their families.”

The first of two grants from The California Community Foundation allows for the expansion of El Nido’s Parent Education Program. Funds are being used to educate parents as to their rights and responsibilities in considering school choice options, and to engage them in community action projects. In addition, a second grant provides funding to train El Nido case managers in effective outreach to targeted communities, and helps eligible families to enroll in full-scope Medi-Cal.

For more than a century, the California Community Foundation has worked to transform generosity into impact and help create a stronger, healthier and more prosperous future for all Angelenos. They believe that our common good is our common ground and that every L.A. County resident has a role to play in realizing the unlimited potential of our region.
