4th Annual Teen & Young Parent Conference Highlights

On Tuesday, April 23, 2019, El Nido partnered with the Best Start Watts-Willowbrook Community and the Human Services Department (HSD) at California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) to host the Fourth Annual Teen and Young Parent Conference on the beautiful campus of CSUDH in the city of Carson. The theme of this year’s conference was Engaging, Educating and Empowering Young Parents to Build Thriving Families and Lead Fulfilling Lives. The conference was a tremendous success, with over 125 teen and young parents in attendance.

La Opinión newspaper covered the event and wrote of an El Nido success story: Pablo and Dulce, original Spanish article and English translation here.

The conference was an agency-wide effort supported by many of El Nido’s programs, including Teen Family Services and the SouthWest LA FamilySource Center.   All aspects of the conference were planned and implemented by teen and young parents from Building Stronger Families and Teen Family Services.  The conference imparted knowledge, empowered young parents to find their voice, and helped parents connect with their peers, moreover, the conference bolstered the leadership and advocacy of young parents who planned, organized and implemented this significant conference.
