Health and Nutrition Assistant

Early Head Start

Major Responsibilities:   Establishes relationships with families to ensure their needs are being met by functioning as the contact person for integrated services by the agency; builds and maintains relationships with all health and nutrition sources, other Head Start programs and community providers; gathers health data; ensures all program required documentation is in the client file; assists families in filling out standard forms and documentation and verifies accuracy of all submitted information.  Also, provides translation for documents, health follow-up with parents, and during meetings and workshops. 

Provide assistance in the following areas: collects well baby and pre-natal exams; input of immunization records in ChildPlus; picks up, sorts and weighs donated produce from farmers market; program donations and in-kind calculation in the area of health and nutrition; conducts the 10-day new born visit, when needed; and assists families in filling out standard forms and documentation and verifies accuracy of all submitted information.   

Position Requirements:   B.A preferred but not required in public health, health administration, child development, social work, psychology, disabilities or a related field and/or a minimum of three years’ experience in assisting the parents of young children in advocating and decision-making for their families; previous experience providing direct services to low income families; knowledgeable of target population and community, including community resources. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills, be a team player, a passionate advocate for the child’s well-being, be able to work with diverse populations, and to network with other health and early childhood professionals to provide needed health services. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows Operating System and related software programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, etc.). Have knowledge of ChildPlus tracking system, must be detailed oriented and organized. Must be adaptable /flexible; Non-judgmental; Resourceful; Energetic; Dependable; Friendly; and Confident. Bi-lingual English-Spanish required.
