Volunteering with El Nido Family Centers enhances the lives of children and youth in your community. 

Whether working directly with our clients, with program staff, or with our Board of Directors-  you can make a significant difference.

Examples of Volunteering Opportunities at El Nido include:

  • Be a guest speaker at our Business, Tech or Culinary Academy for high-school youth.
  • Share your professional journey with our clients.
  • Tutor students struggling academically enrolled at El Nido’s various programs.
  • Participate in activities at our Annual Healthy Families Fair or Annual Teen & Young Parent Conference.
  • Organize a food, back-to-school or holiday drive for our families.

Hands-On Program Needs

  • College Corner at both Pacoima and South LA
  • Biz and Tech Academy speakers (via Skype)
  • Culinary Class/ assist with cooking/lend expertise
  • Garden clean-up/planting
  • Offer your business for field trip visits
  • Offer to tutor, via “virtually.” This makes a huge difference in student success.
  • Volunteer at client seasonal holiday parties
  • Donate toys, books or back-to-school items
  • Organize a holiday food drive for families
  • Donate time at Pacoima Swap meet
  • Youth need transportation to activities. Set up a schedule of trusted designated drivers or organize a carpool with other parents
  • Present an activity for our Select Home Visitaion program clients in Panorama City or south-west Los Angeles. Activities could be yoga, zumba or art activities or present on a topic relevant to our families like renters rights, how to prepare a resume or financial literacy. Groups take place on a weekday with a group size ranging from 5-6 families to 15-20 families
  • Help one of our locations with a holiday event for our children and families. Holidays might include Valentines Day, Halloween, back-to-school or winter holidays
  • Tax Prep – During Tax season, our Our Pacoima FSC can benefit from volunteer tax preparers. VITA training is usually in January and it is a commitment of at least three months during late evenings and weekends.

Development and Fundraising Needs

  • Sorting stuffing envelopes and mailers
  • Writing copy
  • Website updates
  • Google ad grants
  • Conducting and organizing prospective donor corporate and foundation research

Internship Opportunities

  • El Nido offers graduate internships for social work, counseling and MFT students.  Internship opportunities depend on agency capacity and are not guaranteed.  If interested, please send an email to [email protected] with your area of interest, availability and the best phone number and time we can reach you. 
  • Our Pacoima FSC provides internship opportunities to undergrad level students who can commit to do a full year internship of 240 hours. Also, our Pacoima FSC partners with CSUN to recruit undergrad volunteers; look for El Nido at the CSUN recruitment meeting and luncheon with the students.

Administrative Needs

  • Filing in any of the offices/sites
  • Assist with Director of Development for those who have Development experience
  • Assist with Public Relations team for those who have PR experience
  • Assist with Marketing for those who have Marketing experience
  • Graphic design
  • Videography
  • Video Editing
  • Photography
  • Social Media
  • Research savvy scholars: Help with analysis, data entry, research or database maintenance or construction, and data analysis.

Host a Collection Drive for Families, Holidays or Back-to-School

Examples include:

  • Collect donations of diapers and formula for young mothers and their babies.
  • Promote education by donating much-needed new backpacks and school supplies for elementary and high school students.
  • Donate grocery gifts cards for parents who are struggling to feed their families or organize a food drive to assist families in need.
  • Collect Clothing (children, youth, and adult), Toys (new and in the original wrapping), Books (children, youth), and Blankets and Sheets.
  • Organize a food drive for Thanksgiving baskets for our families .
  • Organize a toy drive for our winter event.

 

We are required to have Volunteers provide a negative TB test, and pass a background check before we can place them near clients.  Thank you for understanding.
