Back-to-School Backpacks 2014
Kaiser Permanente Makes the Grade
Over 800 El Nido families attended a Back-to-School Backpack event at the Pacoima Community Center on July 31st. We are proud to say that over the last three years, 1,500 backpacks filled with school supplies have been given to our youth, making it a successful school year kick-off for our children and families.
For the third year in a row, an incredible group of Kaiser volunteers turned their time, resources and negotiating skills into a mountain of backpacks, pens, pencils and other essential school supplies. At a backpack prep party, these dedicated volunteers assembled the backpacks and tucked in encouraging notes wishing success in school and in life.
El Nido’s partnership with Kaiser employees has made a huge difference to the children and families El Nido serves, and we thank each and every devoted volunteer.
DIRECTV Donates Backpacks and Diapers at Compton Event
DIRECTV makes a difference in the lives of young people in Compton! This year they will be starting school ready to learn, feeling more confident as they carry the new backpacks and supplies provided by DIRECTV. Our teen moms were overwhelmed with gratitude for the donated diapers; they are a daily necessity that these young parents struggle to afford.
Our staff is inspired by the generosity of the DIRECTV IT department, knowing that each of them made a personal donation and took time from their busy schedules to make all this happen. These efforts demonstrate DIRECTV’s commitment to the community.
Back-to-School Backpacks 2013
Supplies are crucial to starting off the school year right. With help from generous donors and volunteers, clients are provided with essentials like backpacks, pens, pencils and other basics so they are able to focus on their education and excel in school. In 2013 our supporters included; Kaiser Permanente, Glen Oaks Escrow and GMB North America. Thanks to their generosity, about 700 backpacks helped to provide a great start for the new school year.
