Help El Nido Students Achieve Higher Education Goals
Every spring, El Nido Family Centers recognizes the achievements of a number of our college-bound clients by awarding them with scholarships. Since 1992, the scholarship program has awarded financial assistance to over 500 current and former clients who are pursuing advanced education degrees. It extremely rewarding to invest in these young people who are dedicated to improving their lives, the lives of their families and their communities.
Many of these youth grew up in environments with no academic role models. Some are teen parents with extra responsibilities. Despite very challenging life circumstances they have maintained excellent grades and have never lost sight of their goal to become a college graduate.
El Nido’s scholarship program began in 1992 in response to the civil unrest that occurred in Los Angeles following the Rodney King verdict. El Nido’s board of directors was concerned for children growing up in economically deprived communities which are too often impacted by violence.
The board recognized that many youth were discouraged by the lack of opportunity and the loss of hope. But some of these teenagers had the ability and desire to achieve a higher education, which would give them the chance for a better life. They simply lacked the funds to finance college.
Recently El Nido Family Centers’ Alumni Association and our College Corner have guided our students during high school and the transition to college. The Alumni will continue to be there for them during their college years.
Please help support these students by donating to our Scholarship Fund.
You Can Help Promising Youth to Achieve Their Life and Career Goals
Since 1992, generous donors have provided more than 500 academic scholarships to current and former El Nido clients who are pursuing college degrees. Youth are served from across Los Angeles, and while each bring diverse backgrounds and experiences, struggles and challenges, they all share the will to excel.
These youth need your help to succeed in their life journey.
The educational journey is challenging – and expensive. In spite of the challenges brought by COVID, by and large, the youth that we supported last year didn’t drop out – or even let grades slip. They have endured and demonstrated great fortitude, and yet they need your help.
We need your help to award our talented, driven youth with scholarships and associated supportive services to help them succeed.
El Nido Scholars benefit not only from direct financial aid, but also from comprehensive wrap-around support, including our hands-on Alumni Association (comprised of past clients), College Corner, mentorship, experiential learning opportunities, and much more. Your support makes all of this possible, and yet more is needed so that our 2021 slate of Scholarship recipients can reach their goals.
Your gift transforms lives. Futures. Communities.
When a youth is the first in his or her family to attend college, they change not only the family, but their neighborhood and community.
We are seeking to raise $75,000 to provide scholarships and associated supportive services. Support transformational opportunities for aspirational young adults today. Donate to the El Nido Scholars Fund.
